Halloween Boo Basket Ideas

Halloween is nearly here, and with its pending arrival, it's time to make Boo Baskets for your little peanut (or partner or grandparent, or dog)! Never heard of a boo basket? Well, let me tell you about it.ย A boo basket is like a Halloween gift box, or in this case, a gift basket filled with frightfully fun Halloween items to kick off the spooky season and get your little one excited about the upcoming festivities.

I've never put together a boo basket, but now as a mom to two toddlers that love "spooky things," I'm really excited to put together a couple of cute spooky baskets for them!

I've come up with a list of original ideas that don't include Halloween candy - because we all know they will get enough of that soon enough! I also love fun and functional gifts, so keep reading for what I'm putting in my kids' spooky baskets this year.

Use a Halloween Basket as the Base of the Boo Basket

First, I'm going to use Posh Peanutโ€™s super cute andย reversible Halloween basketsย as the base. Not only will they be the perfect container for their boo basket goodies, but they will also act as a cute room decor to hold miscellaneous items this Halloween season.ย And, of course, they will make the cutest Halloween candy basket come time for trick-or-treating!

Next, you're going to fill the Halloween basket with Halloween-inspired and themed goodies! Here's a list of Boo Basket ideas to get you thinking.

Halloween Pajamas

There's nothing like themedย kids pajamasย to really get you in the spirit of a holiday! Especially with fall coming, the days are getting shorter, and the temperature is dropping, new pajamas are perfect to welcome the snuggly season!

And I don't know about your kids, but both of my girls had big growth spurts this summer, so it's time to size up their pajama drawer anyway.

I may work for Posh Peanut, but I've loved Posh Peanut for many years before I started working here. Posh Peanut pajamas are our favorite, bar none. At this point, I don't even bother buying any other pajamas for my girls because:

    1. They aren't as cute.

    2. They don't last as long.

    3. My girls prefer to wear their "Posh Peanuts," as they say, because they are so comfortable and colorful.

Every year, Posh Peanut nails their Halloween designs, and this year is no exception. Halloween is the founder's favorite holiday, and she infuses her love for the season into these collections. So, yes, they're really good! When it comes to cute and spooky pajamas - these are the ones I'll be adding to our boo baskets.

Halloween Blanket

Next, we're going to get each of our girls a new Posh Peanut Luxe Patooยฎ Halloween blanket. Both of my girls love their super soft and slightly weighted blankets. My oldest will sleep with nothing else.

We are a blanket family, so I'm looking forward to adding a few more to the rotation that will also act as cute Halloween decor draped over the couch or spread over their beds. Now, I only have to decide whether I get blankets that match their jammies or select a different design. There are so many cute designs!

A Halloween Snack

I'm making a point not to add candy to my toddler boo baskets this year, but still want to put together a delicious Halloween gift!ย Instead, I'm going to add some of their favorite, fun snacks like:

  • Popcorn

  • Chips

  • Fruit snacks

  • Juice box

  • Snack bars

  • Cake pops

I can already picture us snuggling up in our buttery-soft viscose from bamboo pajamas and Patoosยฎ and having a little family snack feast with these Halloween treats.

Halloween Room Decor

Next, I'm going to add one or two pieces of Halloween decor so they can decorate their rooms. Here are a few ideas I'll be searching for when stores start putting out their Halloween decor:ย

  • A Halloween night light (not too spooky, maybe a pumpkin or cat)

  • A Halloween stuffie to put on their bed

  • Window or mirror clings

  • Something to put on their nightstand or dresser

A Not-So-Scary Halloween Book

I love, love, love books, and the limit on books in my house does not exist (similar to how we feel about Posh Peanut pajamas and Patoosยฎ). This season, I'm looking to add a few fun and lighthearted Halloween-themed books. Last year, our favorite was "Eek! Halloween!" by Sandra Boyton. If you have little ones, that one is super cute and easy for littleโ€™s to โ€œreadโ€ along!

Spooktacular Sippy Cup or Kids' Drink Bottle

I'm all about a fun and functional gift, and this boo basket idea checks both of those boxes. My girls will love cute and themed sippy cups or bottles with ghosts or silly skeletons on them that they can use for this season and beyond.

If you don't like the idea of using Halloween themed cups in your house past Halloween, then you could always choose a Halloween color like purple, orange, black, or green. These colors will fit right in with the aesthetic of your boo basket goodies, but you wonโ€™t tire of it once the season is over.

Frightfully Fun Crafts and Stationary

Like most toddlers, my girls love crafts. So, I'm definitely going to grab some spooktacular supplies to restock their craft stash. I'm thinking of a variety of Halloween glow-in-the-dark stickers, peel-and-stick foam cut-outs, and, if I'm feeling brave, maybe even some purple, orange, and green glitter pens.

If you have older kids, Halloween-colored nail polish, nail stickers, temporary tattoos, and stationary like notepads or sketch pads would be fun, too!

Hauntingly Stylish Hair Accessories and Halloween Headbands

Another fun and functional Halloween gift basket idea: Halloween hair accessories. Whether cute pumpkin hair clips or scrunchies with ghosts on them, I know my girls will get plenty of use out of these boo basket items.

If you're looking for something more silly, consider adding a pointed witch hat, cat ears, or a headband with light-up pumpkins!

Miscellaneous Boo Basket Fillers

No Halloween Boo Basket is complete without at least a few gimmicky Halloween items. Here are a few that I'll be throwing in my toddler's Halloween gift baskets:

  • Glow sticks (I'll try to set aside a few to bring out for trick-or-treating)

  • Sticky hands

  • Halloween temporary tattoos

  • Playdough in Halloween colors

  • Googly eyes

  • Silly straws

Final Thoughts

I'm looking forward to Spooky Season and can hardly wait for costume shopping with my little trick-or-treaters this year! My youngest one especially gets so excited whenever we see "spooky things" in the stores; I know she will love her boo basket!

Whether new to putting together Spooky Baskets like me or you're a seasoned pro, I hope you found this list of Boo Basket ideas helpful as you curate your very own Halloween gift basket perfect for your little peanut. Soon, I'll head out to the craft stores and dollar bins, searching for the perfect Halloween items on my list. And for the essentials - pajamas, basket, and patoos- Iโ€™ll start by shopping the Posh-O-Ween drops!

We canโ€™t wait to see how you celebrate Halloween this year! Make sure you tag us @poshpeanut!

Happy Halloween!
